Pregnancy and Weight Loss

Many women spend a large portion of their pregnancy worrying about how much weight they’re gaining and how quickly they can get it off afterwards. It’s especially hard when you’re trying to care for a brand new baby.

One good way to lose pounds is to breastfeed. Breastfeeding burns 200-500 extra calories a day. This is nature’s way of helping you return to your pre-baby weight.

You need to eat healthy food so as to lose weight and to provide your baby with sufficient breast milk. Your metabolism will be increased and you will not be hungry if you consume 4-5 small meals during the day rather than 3 large meals.

Drinking a lot of water (8-10 glasses per day) is very important, even more so in women who are breastfeeding. This way, you can get rid of the toxins accumulated on your body during pregnancy. You will most likely eat less when more water is consumed.

Exercising after giving birth is important. It won’t interfere with breastfeeding, unlike dieting. It will also help prevent postpartum depression because exercise boosts endorphins, which in turn give your mood a boost as well.
